About
dinner/supper
As you already know, dinner is the last and main meal of the day.
They usually consist of a healthy balance of meat, fish or soy, vegetables
and starch products such as rice, potatoes or noodles.
What does
the name mean?
The word "Dinner" comes from the French word "Dîner" ("repas pris le
soir", which translates to "repast/meal eaten in the evening"). The word
"Supper" derives from the French word "Souper" (which is related to soup).
Why is
supper different from dinner?
For starters, supper is an evening meal that isn't common in many
cultures. The term "supper" has different meanings depending on the
country:
- In
Britain, supper is usually eaten at around 7.00 pm. It is less formal
than dinner.
- In Canada and the United States, supper is served at around 6.00 pm to
8.00 pm, though in Southern parts of North America, is it served between
3.00 pm and 5.00 pm. The words "dinner" and "supper" are considered
synonyms in these countries.
- In New Zealand and Australian English, supper refers to a light snack
or dessert eaten either late at night or later in the evening.
- In Portugal, Spain and Latin America, supper can be taken at around
10.00 pm to 11.00 pm.
Dinner
is usually served at around 8.00 pm, except in certain cultures (in Arab
culture, for example, dinner can be served between 10.00 pm and midnight).
What's on
the menu?
Formally, dinner is a meal consisting of multiple courses, which can
vary from two to seven:
- Hors
d'oeuvres, otherwise known as starters or appetizers;
- Soup course, occasionally a sorbet;
- Fish course;
- Entrée course, which can be as a palate-cleaning course such as a
sorbet;
- Meat course;
- Dessert, known as pudding or Sweet course;
- Cheese course.

About
fanlistings
A fanlisting is simply a website created to unite fans of a
certain subject. Or, to quote from
The Fanlistings Network itself, "an online listing of fans of a subject, such as a TV show, actor, or musician, that is created by an individual and open for fans from around the world to join. There are no costs, and the only requirements to join a fanlisting are your name and country. Fanlistings do not have to be large sites (although some are) - they are just a place where you can have your name listed along with other fans of the same subject."
