about the breed
What is the Schnauzer, and what kind of personality hides behind
those strange, cute long eyebrows and beard?
The
Schnauzer is a type of German dog breed. "Schnauzer" is German for "snout":
these dogs have furry muzzles. They are known for being loyal to
their family (hence the website name), alert, intelligent and having a strong sense of smell.
They are also friendly and obedient dogs. Schnauzers tend to gain
weight easily, so they should not be overfed. A Schnauzer's life
span usually varies according to its size: Miniature Schnauzers live
longer than Giants.
There are three Schnauzer breeds, subdivided
by size:
- The Miniature Schnauzer, which grows up to 15 inches tall at the
shoulder (alternate names: Zwergschnauzer);
- The Standard Schnauzer, which grows up to 17-20 inches depending
on the dog's gender (alternate names: Mittelschnauzer, Schnauzer, Schnauzer-Pinscher);
- The Giant Schnauzer, which grows up to 23.5-2535 inches (alternate names: Riesenschnauzer, Russian Bear Schnauzer
- used in the early 1900s).

The owner and her dog
Having grown up with a Miniature Schnauzer as one of my pets, I
am very fortunate to own this fanlisting. My dog (featured on
the current layout, on the two photos on the top left-hand
corner), named Tiger simply because he was born in the year of
the Tiger (Chinese zodiac), is a friendly and energetic dog who
loves his family. He has a salt and pepper coat and a docked
tail. From experience, I can say he is stubborn at times, and
really enjoys a few good naps a day. He sticks around during
dinner, always hoping for a little treat (which he rarely gets
because of his tendancy to fall sick). He's always playful and
would do anything for attention (which he often draws thank to
his adorable beard, long eyebrows and flopping right ear). He
has reached his tenth birthday on November of the year 2007 and
is unfortunately growing old, but he is nevertheless the same,
grumpy old dog my family loves. |
